Shirin Gomari
Shirin’s journey with clay began long before Amethyst Art Factory had a name.
She graduated in Ceramic Engineering in 2005 in Meybod, Yazd — an ancient desert city in Iran known as the heartland of ceramics, with a pottery tradition stretching back more than 3,000 years. Studying in Yazd, a place where tiles are woven into architecture, culture, and daily life, deeply shaped Shirin’s approach to craftsmanship. It was here that she learned to see tiles not just as materials, but as vessels of story, symbolism, and soul.
Her education and early career allowed her to explore every layer of tile making — from design and surface patterning to quality control, clay and glaze formulation, kiln firing, and large-scale production. Over eight years working as an engineer in tile factories, Shirin developed a rare balance of technical precision and artistic sensitivity.
In 2015, Shirin and her husband made the decision to migrate to Australia, leaving behind the familiar to build a new life grounded in possibility. After spending time immersed in the Australian ceramic and design industry, one truth became clear to her: the ancient Persian tile tradition — rich with meaning, geometry, and spirit — had a place in this land.
That realisation gave birth to Amethyst Art Factory in 2022.
Today, as Managing Director and creative heart of the studio, Shirin brings together her Persian heritage and Australian lifestyle to create custom-made artisan tiles that feel deeply personal. Her mission is to craft tiles that express a client’s inner essence — tiles that bring harmony, intention, and quiet beauty into living spaces, in the authentic spirit of Persian artistry.
Shirin’s work is guided by more than technique. She is deeply engaged in spiritual growth, believing that spaces hold energy, and that thoughtfully made tiles can influence how a home feels — grounding, calming, and alive.
This love of tile art is already being passed to the next generation. Shirin’s daughter, Amethyst, shares her mother’s fascination with clay, colour, and pattern, and dreams of one day following in her footsteps — a continuation of a story shaped by culture, creativity, and heart.
